My KZ-1000 draw through ran out VERY regularly without a small pump.  I
gravity feed to the pump itself, run a nice big fuel filter, and it works
marvels.  Otherwise your get three seconds of boost, and a lot of....  Not
boost.  :-)  Try any autoparts store, small, simple self primeing pumps can
be had for 15 bucks.  Very worth it.  Anyways - I like the sound of the
fuel pump starting up before the motor.  Reminds me of pappy's hot rod.
